The Edmonton Oilers have had some rough seasons the past few years, but have made some changes to improve the overall quality of the team. The beginning of these changes can be seen with Tom Renney taking over as the head coach in place of Pat Quinn. Following this, there has been a push to revitalize the team by bringing in new players.

During the 2010 season the Oilers added Taylor Hall to their roster as the first pick in the entry draft. During that off-season they began to rebuild their team around this young talent, also adding Magnus Paajarvi and Jordan Eberle. These changes weren’t enough to bring the Oilers a winning season, but they have continued to rebuild and refine their team. Multiple trades were made for this season, resulting with the Oilers bringing in some more young players with high potential.

The Oilers have built up both the offense and defense to create a more well rounded team. They are looking to change their luck this season by building up the team with young talent and tough players, and with a pre-season record of 5-2 it looks like the Oilers have a good season ahead of them. The information party rocks on: Cody Hodgson leads Vancouver Canucks over Edmonton Oilers 4-1 in pre-season

The Edmonton Oilers Ontario-born center one Sam Gagner is no doubt likely to start the season on the bench as an injured reserve after the MRI revealed the worst that he had sustained a high-ankle sprain in his left foot. Gagner had tried to play down the injury by referring to the sprain as “low-grade” but the head coach one Tom Renney is not putting anything to chance saying that if Gagner would be rushed back to play before the medical staff give a satisfactory report.

The Edmonton Oilers first league game will however be against the Pittsburgh Penguins at Rexall Place on Sunday, October 9th. Gagner will therefore not be rushed to play bearing in mind his position. The team is placing faith in the very capable cover, Swedish rookie, Anton Lander. Lander has really impressed during his training and the coach is likely to reward his hard work and diligence by playing him in Gagner’s position.

It’s not known if this will affect the season but with the help of loyal fans cheering the team on. Gagner is said to be a dependable center but the team will pull through with Lander and the roar of the crowd.Still bored?

The professional hockey team known as the Edmonton Oilers was originally founded in 1971 in Alberta, Canada and played in the World Hockey Association beginning in 1972. During the 1978-1979 season, the Edmonton Oilers won the World Hockey Association Championship. The following season, the Edmonton Oilers were one of four teams from the World Hockey Association to join the National Hockey League. It didn’t take long after joining the NHL for the team to achieve great success; the Oilers won the Stanley Cup five times between 1984 and 1990. One of hockey’s most recognized players, Wayne Gretzky, was part of the team for nearly a decade, and he helped lead the team to four of the Stanley Cup victories. Wayne Gretzky still holds the NHL records for most goals and assists in a season. Because of the accomplishments during the 1980′s, the team is recognized by the Hockey Hall of Fame as having “dynasty” status. Throughout the 1990′s, the team’s record made quite a decline, but the team made another run for the Stanley Cup most recently in the 2005-2006 season. The team continues to move forward with the hopes to reclaim its proper status in National Hockey League history.

Based in Edmonton, Alberta, in Canada, The Edmonton Oilers are a professional ice hockey team. The NHL (National Hockey League) places them in the Northwest Division in the Western Conference. Founded in 1971, The Oilers, as they are mostly called, was one of twelve founding franchises of the WHA (World Hockey Association). Originally called The Alberta Oilers they took on their present name of the Edmonton Oilers in 1972. It was when the NHL merged with the WHA, the Edmonton Oilers were given NHL membership in 1979.

Becoming a part of the NHL, the Oilers have gone on to the finals and subsequently winning the professional ice hockey’s highest achievement, The Stanley Cup, five times. Winning from 1984 to the 1990 season, has earned them the status of “dynasty” in the Hockey Hall of Fame. The Oilers went on to greatness under Coach Glen Sather, who performed coaching duties for 23 years. In 1978, the Oilers new owner, Peter Pocklington, acquired Wayne Gretzky as well as goaltender Eddie Mio and forward Peter Driscoll. Wayne Gretzky, still, holds the record for most points in a game in one season. The Oilers also hold the records for, most goals in one season by a player, most assists in one season by a player and most goals scored in one season by a defenseman amongst others.
